In honour of the 100th birthday of visual artist Aad de Haas, SCHUNCK, and Cultura Nova are organising a live performance of Patientia at St. Cunibertus church in Wahlwiller. In an immersive experience combining composition, architecture, and a quadraphonic arrangement, sound artist Mike Kramer will move you with his spherical blend of raw and angelic sounds.
When creating Patientia, Mike Kramer drew his inspiration from the Stations of the Cross and murals by Aad de Haas in the church in Wahlwiller. No ‘real’ instruments are used in the performance of the composition – only synthetic instruments, concrete sounds, and voices. ‘Patientia’ means different things in different contexts. Inspired by the Stations of the Cross, Kramer chose to position its meaning between serenity and submission.
A quadraphonic arrangement will be used for the live performance; the audience will therefore experience the music and sounds from four different angles, which will produce an optimal dialogue between the sound of the composition and the existing architecture. The spherical interplay between the various sounds, sometimes raw, sometimes angelic, and the image and atmosphere of the interior will help to create a profound, all-encompassing experience.
