“So who says Germans don’t have the funk????” – Âme The bass vibrates, confetti shimmers and red uniforms pop in flashing strobe lights. With its explosive mix of hypnotic driving techno and expressive brass band music, Hamburg’s eleven-piece marching band MEUTE treats Cultura Nova to an evening of acoustic raving. What was born as an experiment on the streets of Hamburg’s St. Pauli district in 2015 has grown into an iconic festival act under the name MEUTE.
They launched three studio albums, including the recent TAUMEL. They have performed at legendary festivals such as Coachella ánd they are part of the fourth season of the Netflix series Babylon Berlin, in which they show what techno raves would have sounded like in the 1930s. Needless to say: MEUTE is no everyday brass band or brass band . It started with a bet that got out of hand to rework famous techno and electro classics with percussion and brass . Then, in that unique connection between pumping techno and upbeat horns, every musical code and pigeonhole imaginable perished . Wherever MEUTE, dressed in their famous red coats, takes the stage, this team from Hamburg overwhelms with their show and fantastic acoustic music without digital processing. In co-production with Parkstad Limburg Theaters. “One of the most unusual and successful new Hamburg music projects.” ZEIT “Amazing.” BBC Radio 1 “[…] every appearance causes euphoria. Libération “Symphonic . Hymnal. Orchestral .” FAZ “Hard, fast, rhythmic, rousing . A Hamburg marching band makes the world dance.” Stern
“Coachella’s most curious booking?” Variety
“Watch MEUTE create history” Get Lost to be Found
“The party’s most unforgettable moment.” Resident Advisor
“I LOVE it!!!! Such a great arrangement.” Trentemøller
“EXCELLENT …….. LOVIN IT. U guys are Genius.” Laurent Garnier
