Fairy Queen

Opera Compact (NL)

Baroque meets burlesque in a semi-opera based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, remixed by Mark Pütz.

Anyone who thinks opera is something to stay obediently in your seat: think again! Opera Compact takes the best of both worlds and mixes Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the timeless music of Purcell. Composer Mark Pütz combines a live baroque orchestra with infectious beats to celebrate the diversity of love: baroque meets burlesque.
As soon as you enter poppodium Nieuwe Nor, you’ll be immersed in Fairy Queen’s clubbing experience. And before you have even finished your gin tonic, the experience has already begun; topped off with 3D visuals, drag queens, humor, moving baroque music and crushing beats.

#1000ways #inlove
Henry Purcell adapted Shakespeare’s famous play into the opera The Fairy Queen: enchantingly beautiful music, loving duets interspersed with fairy dances and atmospheric nature paintings. Everything revolves around the one universal theme: love. In the enchanted forest of fairy king Oberon, the relationships of four rival lovers are turned upside down. Even Queen Titania falls in love with a man with a donkey’s head: love has never been so colorful.

“A thousand thousand ways to entertain the hours”

Afterparty
After the performance of Fairy Queen, there will be a fun afterparty in the Nieuwe Nor on Thursday 5, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September! On Thursday, local funky house expert Nothing But Funk will bring some more feet off the floor. And on Friday multi-genre talent Dreyaz will make sure the party continues after the show!
On Saturday we really go into the night in style with the Booty Shake Afterparty of Queer Parkstad: The biggest Queer party of Parkstad and surroundings! You can enjoy tasty beats and thick grooves all night long, combined with a bubbly, vibrant atmosphere where everyone is welcome – a night not to be missed!
