DANSE MACABRE

MARTIN ZIMMERMANN (CH)

An ode to those who think outside the box

In Danse Macabre, three tragicomical, fragile characters who have dropped out of the social norm find themselves in the same place at the same time. Another bizarre figure hovers above them: Death. Embodied by Martin Zimmermann himself, Death intervenes in the stage action like a mischievous puppet master, but remains invisible to the characters. The set is reminiscent of an abandoned garbage dump, full of everything that society throws away.

In wordless theatre on the border between dance, circus and performance, the bizarre has become a way of life for the three teetering creatures, played by virtuoso performers. They try to build a life together in this godforsaken place. Despite serious setbacks and difficulties between them, they keep getting back up, pulling themselves together and coming up with unusual solutions to find a place in a disrupted world.
