The renovated Burg. van Grunsvenplein in front of Heerlen Theatre is the bustling heart of Cultura Nova throughout the festival. Take a dose of klezmer, add a pinch of jazz, a shot of balkan and a dash of gipsy, and voilá; you have the recipe for Amsterdam Klezmer Band! The story of this seven-piece band from Amsterdam literally began in 1996 on the street with traditional Yiddish music. More than a quarter of a century, nineteen albums and 1,500 concerts later, the unorthodox, innovative and infectious klezmer of the AKB is at home in the world top of the klezmer and Balkan scene. They have performed at North Sea Jazz, Lowlands and Sziget and are now the festive closing act of Cultura Nova 2022.
