Ã0 (BE)

A mind-blowing experience.

Ão is a young and exciting Belgian foursome that combines saudade, indie and subtle electronica, with frontwoman Brenda Corijn’s phenomenal voice. Drawing from her Mozambican Portuguese roots, Corijn interweaves her lyrics in Portuguese and English with Siebe Chau’s southern guitar, Jolan Decaestecker’s ambient sounds and production and Bert Peyffers’ eclectic percussion. Their career took off with the incantatory single Mulher, which was even picked up by Seattle’s influential KEXP. It is the precursor to the debut album that will be released next fall. Festival-goers know; live Ão is downright mind-blowing. Finally, for those wondering what Ão [ɐ͂w̃] actually means: depending on how you pronounce it, it can be total nonsense but also something sad, painful or, on the contrary, something very beautiful.
