Cultura Nova is committed to developing in terms of accessibility and hospitality for all.
Below you will find an explanation of the terminology used to describe the possibilities.
Language no problem
These performances contain little or no spoken language. Music or visual presentation plays a major role.
Guide dogs
A guide, assistance or support dog is welcome throughout the festival. However, the dog must wear a harness that clearly identifies it as an assistance dog. If you have doubts whether there are too many stimuli for your dog during the performance, please contact the box office.
Free shows
Enjoy free theatre, dance, music and more. Almost half of Cultura Nova’s programme is available at no cost. To find out which performances are free, you can easily check our brochure or website.
Special offer:
- Sharon & Mireia / Dans voor iedereen * Everbody dance now!
Sharon Wesseling creates dance with and for people of the deaf and hard of hearing community. In her work, she combines body language with urban and contemporary dance styles, supported by visual elements and Visual Vernacular, an art form from the deaf and hard of hearing community that revolves around depicting objects or stories using gestures combined with strong facial expressions. Mireia Varón Gallofré explores how to make dance accessible to people with visual impairments. With her unique and creative method of audio description, she plays with the magic of words and guides you through the story world created by the performer. Both creators offer innovative artistic forms that are stimulating for everyone to experience. A Dutch sign language interpreter will be present on this evening. - Myubio / Soundsystem for Silence Audio low-sensory
Myubio’s Soundsystem for Silence is an immersive sound installation that invites visitors to reconnect with the earth’s natural sound environments.
In today’s world, we often experience noise pollution. Places of true silence, free of sounds unrelated to the earth’s acoustic system, have become increasingly rare. We reach for noise canceling headphones to escape the noise pollution we create ourselves. We are becoming disconnected from the natural environments that once surrounded us.
Inspired by the “audible silence” of nature, Myubio developed a modular sound installation with intelligent sound sources that grow, transform and evolve. In this way they evoke a deep connection with natural acoustics. This effect is further enhanced by spatial light. - Mike Kramer / VERGEZICHTEN – seated performance
In this audio performance, Mike Kramer will take you along several highlights in the centre of Heerlen. As an alternative to the walking route, Mike will use narration and special sounds to take you into stories about the origins, history and even some of the secrets that lie behind Heerlen and its surroundings. Sometimes told from a historical perspective, sometimes from a more poetic angle, you will be enriched with information about special places that you would normally just pass by.
In his work, the sound artist uses field recordings; realistic sounds made, for example, on a roof, in hidden alcoves, air ducts, an underwater world, the clockwork of a church bell, the noise of the city… He artistically uses these sounds in his productions to invite his listeners to get to know the environment (better).
The performance takes place on Monday 2 September at 14:00 in the DSM theatercafé in Heerlen and is accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. NOTE: the performance will be spoken in Dutch.
If you have any questions about the performance, please contact Mike Kramer at mikekramer@home.nl
